What people use playlist exports for
A playlist export turns a list that lives inside YouTube into a file you own and can use anywhere.
- Back up a playlist
- Keep titles and links safe, so you still know what was there if a video is removed.
- Work in a spreadsheet
- Open the list in Excel or Google Sheets to sort, filter, add notes or share it.
- Move to another app
- Use the text or CSV list to rebuild the playlist on another music or video service.
- Feed it to other tools
- Paste plain links or JSON into scripts, documents or AI assistants.
Which export format should you choose?
TubeKit's YouTube playlist exporter saves the same list in five formats. Pick the one that matches where the file is going.
| Format | Best for | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| CSV | Spreadsheets and databases | Comma-separated values that open in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers. Saved as UTF-8, so titles in any language display correctly. The usual choice for a YouTube playlist to CSV backup. |
| Excel (.xlsx) | Working in Excel | A ready-made spreadsheet with one row per video, no import step needed. |
| TXT | Notes and plain lists | One video per line. If you pick more than one field, they're joined with " - ". |
| JSON | Scripts and developers | An array with one object per video, keyed by field name. |
| Markdown | Docs, wikis and AI chats | A table you can paste into Notion, GitHub, Obsidian or a chat with an AI assistant. |
